Over 30 years ago, Livia Cowan began a personal
quest in search of the handmade and the beautiful.
What began as a youthful endeavor across borders
has developed into Mariposa: a harbor for beautiful
craftsmanship, an international passion project, and
most of all, a family.
In collaboration with artisans worldwide, our own
designers bring the best of foreign cultures back to the
United States. Offerings range from high art to whimsy,
in a variety of price points. Our vast assortment of gifts,
elegant tableware and decorative accessories reflect
our warm-hearted creativity, quality and commitment
to inspired design!

Our fine metal is handcrafted from 100% recycled aluminum; all products are food-safe and will not tarnish.
Do not place in dishwasher or microwave.
Avoid extended contact with water and acid-based foods; coat lightly with vegetable oil or spray to avoid staining.
Cutting directly on the metal surface will scratch the finish.
Handwash in warm water with mild soap and towel-dry immediately.
Warm to 325˚ for hot foods. Freeze or chill for Summer entertaining. *
Occasional use of a non-abrasive metal polish will revive luster. *
*Not recommended for enamel pieces.
Wood + Slate
Slate and Wood are made from North American sustainable resources.
Both are food-safe.
Do not place in the dishwasher, microwave, or oven.
Do not use cooking oils to moisturize Slate; periodically apply a thin coat of mineral oil to prevent drying.
Do not use Slate products as cutting boards.
Avoid extended contact with water or acid-based foods.
Handwash Wood in warm water with mild soap and dry.
Clean Slate with a damp sponge.
Regular use of Slate may result in subtle scratches or color changes. This makes up the patina of Slate and is not considered a defect.
Marble products are food-safe.
Do not place in the dishwasher or submerge in water.
Do not place hot food directly on top of Marble.
Clean promptly after use with acidic ingredients.
Handwash with mild soap and water. Towel-dry with soft cloth.
In order to prevent staining, before each use rub Marble generously with vegetable oil, allowing it to absorb fully.
Variations in color and pattern reflect the unique attributes of natural Marble and show off the stone’s beauty.
Recycled glass is handcrafted from 100% recycled soda bottles.
Bubble glass is handcrafted by Italian master glassworkers.
Both are dishwasher safe.
Do not freeze or microwave glass.
Recycled glass: a mild detergent on a warm, gentle cycle.
Italian glass: use the air dry setting.
Extreme temperatures may cause cracking.
Slight variations in color, bubbles, cooling marks (like the pontil on the bottom) are signature of the crafting process.
